55. (55) – Gideon the Ninth, by Tamsyn Muir

I kept seeing this book pop up on recommendations everywhere, but when I read the description, I kept passing.  It just didn’t feel like a novel that hit my interests.  But people I trust started reading and swore by it.  They talked about how unique it was, how just plain kick-ass the story was.  And they didn’t let me down.

Gideon the Ninth was magnificent from the beginning though it took a little time before I was completely sucked in. It just felt different, and I wasn’t quite sure what was going on, but I kept wanting to know more.  And as more and more began to be revealed and more questions kept popping up, this novel became pure nonstop, can’t put it down, fun.  It’s kick-ass scene after kick-ass scene.  Don’t be put off by a description that sounds different than the typical novel you’d read.  In this case, that’s a great thing.  Read it.
